I'm back......Hump Day.......and a little blog love

Well, actually, I didn't say I was going anywhere so you probably didn't even miss me so I don't know. I spent a couple of weeks with my mommy in Trinidad taking care of details of remodeling our home. Tedious work to say the least. All wasn't bad though. The scenery, as always, was to die for. I will post in the near future in more detail just as soon as I download some awesome pics.

Today is ALL about blog luv. While I was in Trinidad there was little time for blog reading as I would regularly do here. Since I returned I have been playing catch up on what some of my favorite bloggers have been up to. Anilia's blog, Motivated Sista, as you can probably guess by now is all about motivating women to, as she says, "pursue their dreams and live the best lives possible". I love that! I am at currently chopping away at some goals myself, including my desire to get a masters ( just as SOON as I fill out the application) and its great to read positive posts that are along those lines.

When I got back, her most recent post was "You Are All That Matters" and all I can say is that it hit H-O-M-E! I do not know Anilia ( I act like I do huh, I'm using her first name all willy nilly) but honestly I swear she wrote this directly to ME. Afraid of success, afraid of failure, afraid to leave my comfort zone...Check ....Check....and Check. I personally am very guilty of having Imposter Syndrome and try my best to remind myself that I am WORTHY but honestly one wrong word from the right person and my self-esteem could be shaken for weeks sometimes even months. After reading that post I pulled out my calendar and started planning my application in three small steps. It's due in November so keep me honest.

Today, as it turns out, is her first blog anniversary and so to celebrate head on over to Motivated Sista and show her some love. If you're feeling really good, take a moment to fill out the survey -click here for the link- she has listed to help her make the blog even better.

Have a great rest of the week

P.S. Before you comment.....Yes, the photo WAS random and No, it is in no way related to the post....it just expresses how I felt today

Happy Thursday

I can be a selfish reader sometimes. I often find really good articles and keep them to myself. The last couple of blog posts I have tried to step out of that and share with you a little of what interests me. I came across this a while back in the New York Times and kept the link to go back and forth, mainly to keep looking at the roti and bake and shark featured. It is titled, Tasting Trinidad and it was done back in 2007 but, even today, the images still bring about a good feeling.

Have a great Thursday!

P.S. On a totally random note....The Rockets lost the 2nd game to the Lakers last night. Let's just say the Lakers are something else - and that Derrick Fisher. I am so shocked by what he did in the game. I didn't know he was that kinda player. And Kobe - just a leetle reminder - Artest is not going to let you push him around!

I'm back.....but you knew that already!

Hello readers! I know I have been missing in action since returning from Trinidad a couple of weeks ago. I had a WONDERFUL WONDERFUL WONDERFUL time!!! My last couple of days there I became extremely nostalgic and began to contemplate how I could get a few more days off of the ticket- you know the path I was going down- plotting to give up my seat if they ask me or better yet, 'accidentally' miss my flight during the rush hour period where everyone tries to leave the island. I began to feel guilty and on the last night finally  came to my senses, packed all of my bags with all things remnant of Trinidad- Radical Designs t-shirts for me, my brothers and my nephews, seasonings from Chief (yea de curry people) and homemade chow-chow,courtesy of Auntie Gurlaine (thanks Auntie Gurlaine!).
After I got back, I got sooooo sick....my mom said it was because I wasn't READY for that kind of feteing. She REAL bold fuh dat!!! Honestly, she was right but of course  I didn't have the heart to tell her that. I just took the sickness like a woman.  She brought me soup and juice and comforted me  while I sat around dazed for an entire weekend.
In a way I am happy to get back. I missed blogging (and reading blogs)and had high hopes to actively blog while I was there.  Internet services and sheer access were no where near what I am used to and I have high hopes government officials eventually will get it to high standards. Go TSTT or Blink and whomever else decides to jump in the high-speed internet arena.  May the force be with you!
I miss Trinidad a lot and while I was there I took a ton of pictures. I got a Nikon D40X right before I left for Trinidad. It is a nice camera, nothing like anything I have ever owned before. It made me love photography even more. More about that in a later post. As I write I am thinking I can use them to pacify myself until my next visit. Right now  I am trying to figure out how best to archive them. I was thinking of getting a Flickr or some like account but I haven't quite decided. This particular photo is one of my favorites. It was taken at Girl Power when the fete was over at like 8 in the morning. (Yes! 8 in da mornin!) Don't we look fresh? There are a lot more like this one.
A lot went on while I was in Trinidad. I will try to touch on some of those things that aren't time sensitive in coming posts. Til then.....

Greetings from Trinidad and Tobago

Greetings from the beautiful Trinidad and Tobago !

This time last night I was stressing over my trip here. First it was whether or not I had everything I needed clothes, shoes that kinda thing. Next it was checking off the requests of everyone who knew I was coming.
“Bring meh dis nah?” or I know yuh rushing to leave but when yuh comin bring some ______ nah?” To top it all off, I had slept a mere two (yes I said TWO) hours. There was a period of about two hours where I SERIOUSLY was considering NOT coming. But then as if out of the V-8 commercial someone appeared and clunked my forehead as if to say, “Yuh mad or what? Is Trinidad yuh going!”

I began to suck up all the worries and continued with the errands I had planned for the night. Fast forward a little and well let’s just say all that is water under the bridge now cuz guess what?????? I am here!!!! I was so excited on the flight because it was then it begin to sink it. Actually the closer I got the better I felt. When the pilot released the landing gear, I felt a little flutter in my heart. It was kind of funny actually because for some reason I began to think of all the times I had been to Trinidad and a little ritual I had always been privy to.
To be honest, I am not sure when this ‘tradition’ began or if you can call it a tradition per se but IT happens EVERYTIME a plane lands in T&T. It goes like this …. when the plane actually lands, passengers (usually locals, foreign-born children of locals like me and those who have been to the island long enough to know the ritualistic behavior of Trinidadians) clap and start tuh cheer. It is almost like saying, “Thank you God for getting us here safe!” I know for a fact this is an island thing because I have traveled internationally to other places and have never experienced this. Anyway back to the story….There was a bit of a delay in the clapping and cheering and I thought, “Ok. Maybe people don’t do this type of thing anymore.” Well, either they were reading my mind or they were just being a LITTLE slow because as soon as the thought left my mind, guess what???? they DID IT! Don’t ask me why but it felt good. I had to bus a lil smile. Fast forward again and I am now at my Dad’s and just had a little dinner. I am sitting here trying to digest all of the things he has said to me about what I am going to be doing over the next couple days. Truthfully, all I REALLY heard was the fact, in between him giving me orders, is that they DON’T have Internet at the house. So that being said I can only post when I get to an Internet CafĂ©. I cant wait! That’s all for now
